Enabling 5G will increase the number of smart devices and, as a result, the global mobile data traffic can be expected to grow rapidly. These increments will be based on new applications and services that require:

• Mobility
The construction of 5G network facilities can support the resource requirements of later applications. 5G will be the main framework for the development of IoT and smart city projects.

The development path of 5G
5G will play an important role in the development of new technologies and applications, and will enable technology expansion based on the following two paths:
• New wireless access network for mobile communications
• Data Center Architecture

The new mobile communication radio access network refers to the evolution of RAN in 5G. This evolution will have a huge impact on wireless technology, enabling edge computing. The future RAN will also help reduce latency, which is one of the most important features of 5G.
On the other hand, data center architecture will change in two ways:
Data centers must upgrade their backbone connectivity to increase bandwidth and support the growing demands of devices and applications. In order to achieve strong adaptability and network flexibility, 5G will increase the use of vRAN.
2. To create vRAN, the network architecture will evolve towards centralization and virtualization, grouping the distribution of legacy functions and moving the previously centralized functions to the edge.

A New Concept in the 5G Era-Edge Computing
From the two implementation paths of 5G, we can find the new concept of edge computing. Edge computing will become part of the communication system and can be connected to new RANs and cloud data centers.

As can be seen from the figure, edge computing enables data from mobile or IoT devices to be analyzed at the network edge before being sent to the central cloud data center, thereby reducing transmission time and reducing response time to milliseconds while saving network resources.

Based on this communication concept, the new radio access network will be connected to the local edge cloud or regional edge cloud and analyzed and processed before being sent to the hyperscale cloud and data center.
